College Scholarship Fund with Application Form

 
Principles and Values:

Scholars are selected because they embody the principles and values espoused by Josephine and Winfred Brendle:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Demonstration of strength of character and Christian values
  • Leadership potential
  • Academic performance or promise
  • Willingness to give back to the community

In addition, there are a number of specific requirements to be eligible for the Josephine & Winfred Brendle Scholarship Program:

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Josephine & Winfred Brendle Scholarship Program, students must satisfy the following requirements at the time of application:

 

Be a citizen of the United States of America or Haiti

 

Be a high school senior graduating from a school in Haiti or the Appalachian region of the United States of America, or any otherpoverty area in the United States of America.

 

For U.S. Students, earn an SAT combined math and critical reading score of 800 or higher, with math score no lower than 400 and critical reading no lower than 400

 

For Haitian Students, submit evidence of a score of at least 800/1600 on the public exam administered by the Department of Education of Haiti.

 

 

Demonstrate financial need

 

 

Provide an essay and recommendations to demonstrate that you embody the principles and values listed above.

 

Awards:

Awards will be made on a year by year basis to students as funds are available.  The decision of the Josephine & Winfred Brendle Scholarship Selection Committee will be final.  Notifications will normally be given to students approved for awards at least two months prior to the beginning of school.

In order to help future students and to give practical expression to the value of “giving back to the community,” students are encouraged to voluntarily repay 33% of the awards after graduating and securing employment.

Before you fill out your application, please note these REMINDERS:

 

1. Application must be completed in English or French.

2.

Word count for all essay questions in Parts I & II must be at least 300 words, but no more than 500 words.
3. Application must be typed in 12 point font.
4. Form may be edited to add responses directly to the form and may be submitted as an attachment to an email.
5. Attach at least two reference letters to help demonstrate your practice of the principles and values listed above on this page.
6. Attach an official copy of the list of fees for your program of study at the selected university.
7. Completed application must be submitted to the J&WB Scholarship Selection Committee, email:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., by January 31, 2015.
8. If the downloaded pdf application is opened with Adobe Reader XI, you can click on the Fill & Sign button to allow you to fill in the form.

If you do not have an email account, but you are in touch with Pastor Tim Brendle on Facebook, you can send your scholarship/loan application by Facebook.

Steps:

1) Log in to Facebook on the computer where your application materials are saved.

2) Click on the Message link on your Facebook Page.

3)  Select Pastor Tim from you list of contacts

4) The message box will open.  At the top of the box, on the same line where Pastor Tim's name appears, click on the small gear (or wheel) and then click on "See Full Conversation"

5) This will open the full conversation with a reply box at the bottom.  Below the reply box, you will see a link "Add Files." 

6) Click on this link to add your application file or any other file you need to submit.

7) When you send the message, the file will also be sent to Pastor Tim Brendle who is an officer of the Josephine & Winfred Brendle Scholarship Fund.
